Steyr ambi-mag release update

So I'm considering a Ruger P series, because it's very ambi friendly and being left handed and find that the Glock's mag release draws blood, I began doing the hunt for the ambi-mag release as shown by an ad done by Steyr.

So I emailed GSI. One of them emailed me back, he indicated that they seemed to have tried a few ambi models, but reliability became an issue, so they dropped it.

That's strange, I would think it not so hard to make an ambi mag release that doesn't effect reliability...

Anybody else hear anything to the fact?

I saw the same pictures. As a lefty, that gave me the only excuse I really needed to go get one :). Then I read on this board and others that that would not be the case. An e-mail to the importer confirmed that. Darn.

I think the reliability they're referring to is retaining/releasing the magazine, not firing.

That is what I figure, but a magazine is SO important to the reliability of a gun. I know a guy, cussed out his gun all the time, it jammed every other shot. He changed the mag, and tada! He had 1 jam in like 600 shots.

As for being able to keep the mag/release reliable, they are smart people, it shouldn't be the biggest challenge on the building of a good hand gun.
