Stevens shotgun.

Well I finally got my first shotgun. I went down to my local pawn shop and got a single shot Stevens Westpoint model 948 for $70. Can anyone tell me about the age of this shotgun? I googled it and really didn't turn up anything. Thx :-)

Actually I couldn't find a serial number. Also what kind of choke do these shotguns have? It's not indicated on the barrel.

Keeg, first off, happy shooting and HOLD ON TO THAT STEVENS. In their day they were workmanlike guns - built for the common man. But they were well made and built to last. My dad has a model 94C 16 gauge for over 50 years now and it just won't quit!
U.S built guns were not required to have serial numbers prior to 1968 or so, when the Brady Act took effect, hence you won't find a serial number on yours, which by the way is quite an old machine. I am fairly certain yours is a fixed half choke.

Read this thread, ran to my safe & pulled out my Stevens 94C single shot, hammer, .410, color case hardened receiver, no serial number or choke size marking. My vague recollection - my late father gave it to me about 50 years ago when i was 9 - all of the single shots were full choke.
