Parts can sometimes be had through Numrich Gun Parts Co.

In left column, ORDER PARTS, go toward the bottom and click on Stocks, Forends & Handguards.

Hope you can get yours running properly. Mine is a treasured family heirloom.

Best,

I understand the desire to clean up any rifle, but that Model 87 might be better as a wall hanger. If it works, fine, it is a rarity and have fun with it. If it doesn't, I don't suggest putting any time or money into trying to make it work.

Those guns (there were several models by Stevens, Savage and Springfield (the division of Savage, not the government armory) were the most trouble prone and exasperating rifles I ever worked on. The system is interesting. When the gun is fired, the bolt blows back and latches open until the trigger is released, at which point it picks up a fresh round and chambers it. A pull of the trigger releases the firing pin, the gun fires, and the same thing happens.

If all the parts are new, and all the springs perfect and in balance, the gun works OK. But as soon as the springs weaken, the balance is upset and things go wrong. In addition the cartridge feed mechanism is not well designed in the tubular magazine models and gives a lot of trouble.

After looking at this rifle and messing with it. I have decided to set it in the corner and if I ever find anyone that needs parts or a "junker" then I will make a deal....the thing is just ugly it is in so bad a condition, it is just a barrel and action it seems to function but ???? the feed tube will not come out but the trigger works . Oh well...nothing lost.
