Stevens Model 15

A recently rescued Stevens M15 isn't cocking the firing mech when the bolt lever is worked and the gun won't fire. If the back of the bolt assembly is pulled after the bolt is closed the trigger locks and it will then fire. Is this normal or is a minor adjustment needed.
It looks like the notch that catches on the trigger pull needs to be turned to the right slightly.

Thanks in advance,

JD

Stevens 15

A lot of older "boys " single shots had to be manually cocked after closing the chamber. I believe your Stevens 15 is supposed to work that way?

As gundog47 said, many old single-shot rifles were intended to be cocked manually because they have no safety mechanism. Your Stevens 15 is working properly in that respect.

 A Stevens /Savage Model 15 is not cocked by by manipulating the bolt. As stated it is cocked by hand by pulling back the cocking knob. No offence intended, but if you are having this sort of difficulty with a firearm as simple as the Stevens 15, perhaps you could find someone/place to give you a little tutoring just for safety's sake.
