i have a stevens 940e 1n 410, 18 3/8 " barrel, (youth?), looking for age. only id i see on it is a V over a G over an 18 on both barrel and frame, also has 53U in oval in various locations, frame was gloss black but has been stripped to expose white metal, barrel has been filed or ground in a couple of places to remove pitting, then poorly cold blued, (comming off), badly sanded stock w/ a red, almost orange stain. was there ever any collectability for this gun. should i try to restore or just get it nice looking for me? matte black engine paint baked on for frame and reblue barrel and other metal? any suggestions or help w/ dating? thanks rick

Rick,

Your gun was made between 1961 and 1970. It has little value in the condition you have described. In excellent condition it is worth around $100.00. From the description of your gun, it is honestly not worth trying to improve it to increase its value. You might want to use it as a project gun to refinish yourself. Otherwise, use it in its current condition. Many thousands of these little side levers were produced.
