Stevens 67E problem

Hi my grandfather recently picked up a Stevens model 67E that he wants to turn into a home defense shotgun. He bought a shorter barrel to replace the 26 or 28 inch one that came with the gun. Can anyone tell me how to remove the barrel as it seems to be a press-fit from the factory. Any helpful tips are appreciated.

Cut down would be cheaper

I believe they are silver soldiered in. I had one last week a guy wanted parkerized. After blasting and parkerizing it there was a small area around the ejection port that would not take the finish. It was a small amount of silver soldier. A good smith can just cut the barrel to length, face it off and even put in screw in chokes for the expense of removal and replacement of the new barrel. I like the guns they do got a heavy barrel.

I have not examined a replacement barrel. Does it have threads on it?

IIRC, the barrels are screwed in, but in any case they are not intended to be removable without special equipment. Changing barrels would be a gunsmith job. I agree on simply cutting down the existing barrel.
