just picked this one up yesterday. 50's vintage Stevens 5100 20ga in excellent condition. This make the second SxS I found in the last two weeks. Needs a little clean up, some oil and it's ready to go. I'll give it a test drive around the clay course this week! :)

Reminds me....

Of the one my Grandad had - only in 16 guage. It was his all-around farm gun and hunted all manners of critters with it. I always had my eye on it, and when visiting him when he was reaching the end (some 20 years ago), noticed it was missing from his gun rack. I asked him where it was and got "oh, I figured I did not need it anymore so I sold it to some guy at the stock yard"......GGRRRRRR......

another bullet proof SxS in my safe. A 20 gauge 511, last of the US built Savage/Springfield/Stevens guns. Late 70's gun...

I'm not quite that old, but I have the 16 ga model. The first shotgun I bought as a kid for pheasant hunting. Great gun. Even shot deer with it using slugs.

thanks Keg. The 5100 is a nice little gun and very easy to shoot. Only shoots 2-3/4" shells. The 511 shoots both 2-3/4 and 3" inch...

I cant swear to it but I'm pretty sure the 5100 was dropped in 49. The 311 came out in 49 and some were marked with both 311 and 5100.

Hawg, it's my understanding that many of the records were destroyed at the Savage plant via water pipe damage. A few collectors told me the 5100 action gun was a 50's vintage. Who knows...

Ok, the 5100 was made under the Springfield name until 48. The 530 was the same gun made under the Stevens name. After the Springfield name was dropped the 5100 became the 311. In 54 the 530 was also called the 311 I've seen guns marked 5100 on one side and 311 on the other side. Steven's date codes on 311's go back to 49. 5100's don't have date codes. I have a 20 gauge 5100 marked Springfield and Stevens Arms Co.
