Steel Target Stand

I finally got my steel target stand built. This one is just a prototype made from 2X4s. I have less than $15 invested in materials and the paint was left over from another project.

I’ll see how it holds up from bullet spatter.

I made the hangers from some 3/8” conveyer belt that my brother gave me and he made the hold downs for me out of 3/8” steel.

I set the target center height about 5 1/2 feet high.

Anyway, I plan to take it for a test drive this weekend.

Here’s what it looks like.

I wouldn't shoot it in your garage like that. It might be a little loud. Great job. I'm sure it'll work fine.

I made mine using saw horses with those brackets. 24" 2x4 legs and 36 inch top. Put two screw hooks in and hung the steel plates using rebar wire. Just used one short deck screw per bracket side so I can replace the wood easily. Testing it tomorrow. About $10 each.

Looks good.

You may want to consider putting a 20 degree twist in your targets mounting tabs so that they naturally deflect to the side and down.
I'd also suggest relocating your horizontal hanger bar to the rear of the 2x4's, then mount the rubber straps to the back of it so that the deflected rounds dont hit your 2x4 uprights.

Thanks all for the comments, although I don't think I'll be trying it out in the garage

This one is a prototype, so next time around I'll incorporate improvements from here and other forum postings.

Here's pictures from today...

Yes they do move. I may shorten the conveyer belt some after using it more when I see how it does with side hits.

They are angled back at the bottom slightly as a result of the mounting method and their own weight. I may shim them at the top to increase the angle to the back at the bottom.
