Stats on stolen firearms

I bought a Ruger 10/22 this weekend and the first thing in the instruction manual is a list of all the regulations and warnings in different states. Most of them were instructions to keep the arm secure and away from children but the Massachusett text claimed 200,000 firearms are stolen a year. Is that number credible?

Not sure on credible, but I believe it, and have seen bigger numbers actually. It's no fun loosing a pistol that's in your glove box if someone cleans your car out. I feel bad for the people who have their houses cleaned out and loose everything! It's easy to see how 10 or 20+ guns can get stolen at once.

Let's see...

200,000 out of 200,000,000...

That's about .1% (a tenth of a percent).

Sounds like a big number until you do the ratio. Kinda like the "deficit."

Regards,

Walt
