Hi, im in texas and i just got a colt 38 from a friend, is there anything i need to do as far as registering it or anything?

Also i was courious.....if i go to the gun range to pop a few caps off with it....how would i carry it to the range since im not register to carry one?

Sorry....this is all new to me, any help would be appriciated.
 
In Wisconsin, U don't need to register a gun bought/sold 3rd party I think they call it. He wrote u p a little receipt for me. Also, In Wisconsin we have no ccw, to transport weapons, they gotta be unloaded in a case, preferably in the trunk. I have a pickup truck and throw it in the back extended cab part. I think that no registering if bought 3rd party is good for all states, but I'm not 100%, and I think transporting a gun is different state to state, sorry that's not more helpful
