State-Federal Forfeiture Flea Flicker

A long Kansas City Star article detailing how state police agencies use the federal government to go around the state laws which are designed to protect people from due process violations. They simply hand it over to the feds who give back 80% to the state police agencies.

Read it. Save it. You will be pissed.

Rick,
Good post. I read it and you're right!

Either you believe in the Second Amendment or you don't.
Stick it to 'em! RKBA!

This is yet another bastard child of the phony "war on drugs". The government refuses to treat addiction as a medical issue, not a criminal issue, because the anti-drug hysteria allows them to acquire greater police powers (at the expense of our rights) and justify huge law enforcement budgets and staffing. Over 80% of our prison population and 80% of crimes against persons and property are a result of drugs, one way or another. By keeping them illegal and denying addicts treatment, users are forced to rob and steal to support a habit they can't break.

The "war on drugs" has also created a wealthy and powerful criminal profiteer class, just as Prohibition did.

Banning didn't work with Prohibition, and it won't work with drugs. Education and treatment will work, but you have to give them a chance.

Also, it amazes me that the HCI folks think a ban would actually keep guns off the street -- I assume they're relying on the same efficient mechanism that has made us a drug-free nation? (sarcasm intended)

"This is yet another bastard child of the phony 'war on drugs'."

Precisely. The courts are allowing this behavior and giving police agencies their stamp of approval.
