Does anyone know anything about these guns? I have a strong urge to get one. I want a small alloy light weight 45 for concealed carry. I have arthritus in my hips and can't carry a solid steel model for long without starting to hurt, plus I am on the small size(5'5) and can't conceal a full size. I don't care for glocks,I like the 1911 style.I know they arn't made anymore, but how dependable were they and how accurate? thanks,oh,I only have about $600 to spend and I saw some on the net for $250.00 Would I be throwing my money away? sj

I had one, and wish I still did.

There is a buffer built in to the gun, which requires replacement every thousand or so rounds.

Accurate, and reliable, the only drawback was the cost of magazines and other extra parts.

Hello. The ones I've seen and shot were reliable and plenty accurate for their intended purpose. However, parts are very hard to get and these do require a shock buff and I flat don't know if one could be made from the plastic 1911 buffs so common now. Unless it came with plenty of spare magazines and perhaps a firing pin and extractor, I'd pass. I THINK that CDNN MIGHT have spare magazines however. (www.cdnninvestments.com)

Best.

PS: I am NOT knocking Star handguns; I own 4, and while I like and enjoy them, I'd not have purchased them had I known that Star was going to fold.

i was able to find the star buffers from: jack first at 6053439544. the star pd is listed by them as gun #414. the part no. for what they call a recoil spring guide buffer is: stt-10049. i ordered this part about 8 months ago and don't know if it is still available.

besides changing the buffer, i also ordered the star pd gunspring kit, and magazine springs from wolff's gunspring. i find the star to be a very reliable weapon.

I owned a Star PD some years back, and stupidly sold it to buy some gun I can't even remember. It was a fine little companion to my larger .45s, and fit perfectly into my Commander-sized holsters. (I had the older model with the rounded triggerguard.) The gun was reliable even with my semi-grungy practice reloads that used SWC bullets. Factory ammo was perfectly reliable, too, though I never tried any truly wide-mouthed hollowpoints, being content at the time with the light-kicking Silvertips.

The only problem I had with the gun was the profusion of sharp edges, especially the corners of the frontstrap and the lower edges of the thumb safety. These tore up my dainty hands when I used the gun hard. A gunsmith friend of mine dehorned his own PD with good ergonomic results, though it looked awful. Still, there was obviously no danger of rusting the alloy frame, so it was really just cosmetic. A little cold blue touched up the safety lever.

The sights are a tad small by modern standards, if I recall correctly, but are vastly better than those on a military 1911A1. They aren't exactly an Ashley Big Dot, but are still quite usable.

Magazines are available through Sarco (www.sarcoinc.com) for $18 each, by the way -- about the same as many 1911 mags. Other parts remain in question, as Mr. Camp notes.

A friend of mine had one of the early ones that cracked a frame-he got a replacement from them. I had one, and liked it a lot-reliable, accurate, and handled well.

I have a Star PD .45, Interarms import, which I bought new, about 1981. I've shot a lot of different ammo through it, and never jammed it once. (Wish I could say that about my other .45s!) That includes my standard reload for IPSC/IDPA H&G 68 SWC lead 200 gr., 5.8 grs. WW231.

I've carried it many a mile, in a Gordon Davis IWB holster, with a couple of spare mags. I would not sell it.

I would add, if you find one imported by the old firm of "Garcia", I'd pass. Big time quality control problems. Interarms imports? They improved the Q.C., and I'd buy one in good shape, immediately.

I also have six spare mags. My carry load is factory WW 185 gr. Silvertip H.P.s.

Makes for a very good, dependable, concealable handgun.

had 1, sold it , reget it...:(

would get another it i had a reliable source of parts (not too expensive)

1. mine was accurate and reliable (federal 185gr jhp)
2. the trigger (pivoted) wasn't bad
3. the hammer spur and rear sight blade were a bit sharp
4. heard the adjustable rear sight screws were fragile, i just adjusted mine once and never had to again
5. the grips are thin and unfinished.

hope this helps

Trade mine last year against a Ruger P95,had carried it almost daily for 15 years and it still looked new,fed everything I gave it.I got rid of it because of concern about parts, etc.A outfit in New Jersey ,Sarco Inc.bought all the parts from Interarms. They did not seem interested in selling them, however as they had never taken an inventory of what they had.

Only the Star buffer will work correctly in this pistol.

Do not ever shoot it without a buffer in place.

It will ruin your frame in less than 50 rounds.

I used to have some of these buffers. If I can find them I will let your know. They would be free to a good home.

I have had two of them. Shot many hundreds of rounds of hardball with no problems. No shock buffs, no problems. I will say that I never liked the tiny safety lever.
