Star Model A 9mm Largo for Taurus TCP trade

Would you do it? I've got $150 in the Star, two mags and an extra recoil spring plug, the TCP comes with one mag and the box.

Would be straight across..ammo for the Star is my biggest reason for considering. What say you?

If I needed a small pocket pistol yes I would do the trade. I have a TCP and after 300+ rounds all I can say is I like this little pistol.:)

While there are certainly limits to this philosophy, I have always worked on the idea of value being variable based on desire. If you can get something you want in exchange for something you don't want, you did well in the trade.

The Star is a well made pistol with a lot of life left in it, ammo is less a problem than you think as surplus and commercial is currently available. The Star is a full sized pistol so not a CC firearm if that is your interest . Personally I would keep the Star, buy ammo for the shelf and invest in a known reliable pistol for CC if that is your need.

I CC a Star Model B. Being that it is full size it is much easier to hit where you aim. I take it that you are not a reloader? Find a friend that reloads and keep a firearm that you can pass on to your heirs.

For $150 I'd keep the one and buy the other. Ammo is not that tough to get, there is always some US-made commercial Largo floating around the gun shows.

I might trade a Star for something, but it sure wouldn't be a Taurus.
+1.

Additionally, one of my top factors to consider (often THE top factor) when selling or trading away a gun is how difficult and/or pricey it will be to get another one if I come to regret the decision.

Using this criteria, this is a bad trade, because I can buy a TCP at any time, but replacing the long-discontinued Model A with another one in equivalent condition for only $150 may be a tall order.

Have to agree with Gyvel, I've got Stars, and Taurii in the safe...
rather have all Stars, but the Wifey loves her Taurii :)

I would make the trade for the TCP. I would then buy FMJ rounds for practice and Hornady Critical Defense FTX for carry and test them out.

9mm Largo is scarce and will forever be a pain in the ass to stock

After some thought..I made the trade. Largo ammo is hit and miss, and .380 plentiful in comparison. The Star is a very well built gun, no doubt, but not something I'll look to replace. I only bought that one due to price, and the belief it was Parabellum, not Largo.

Thanks for the opinions, and while I might have shorted myself a bit, I did get a gun that drops I to my pocket easier then my 642 does. And I like that!

No way!! Star Model A is a classic real pistol; if you want a cheap throw away polymer pocket pistol-just buy one. Have you seen the TCP trigger reset/misfire video?

TnTnTn..no, I have not seen that vid.

While not in my rotation yet, the 642 is still my go to pocket, the TCP will be shot in the next day or so. I have some dry fire time with it, and it's not a bad trigger for what it is.

And truthfully, the Largo part of the Star was just a killer. I liked the gun, but Largo is none existent in my neck of the woods, and random online. I don't reload, so hunting for ammo for a gun who's sole purpose would then be plinking was too much of a turn off. That said, a 9mm 1911 is now on the "I want" list.

For a 9mm 1911, go no farther than RIA or Citadel for your first.
It will get you in inexpensively, with high quality :)
Once you figure out what you like the best, you can save up for a special order Dan Wesson later...
