I have owned one in 9mm,but always wanted the 45. I have heard of cracked slides being an item ,and even noticed one on Gunbroker with a cracked slide.Any comment or personal experience?
thanks

If you are refering to the firestar .45 I have one. It is very reliable.accurate and heavy. I broke a slide stop awhile back and I had a heck of a time finding a replacement. I bought mine 2 years ago with 2 mags for $200. It is a blued version and it was in xlnt cond when I bought it. Mark

I have several Star Firestars -- they're great guns.

But since they're no longer imported, parts are an increasing problem.

Unless you can get it very, very cheaply (way under $300) I think you'd be better served buying a Ruger P-97, which is reliable, durable, and accurate -- and unlikely to need parts.

Firestar

I have both a 9MM and a 45 in Starvel (?) and the only thing wrong is the weight. I probably have 300 rds through the 9 and about the same in the 45. It's a nice little gun, but it's semi retired now that I have a small Kimber.

I`ve had a blue M45 for seven years.

I bought it when I retired and carried it every day for quite awhile. It`s in my safe deposit now since I have other carry guns. No problems but like it`s been said, buy it cheap. You might want to check with Numrich Arms for parts. I heard they bought them out except for the mags which CDNN has at a good price.
