Star Firestar Plus

I purchased a new addition to my 9mm collection yesterday. A Star Firestar Plus 9mm. The price, $270 out the door, was too good to pass on. It came with 2 13 rd mags, a 10 rd mag and all accessories and papers. Condition was probably 95%.

This is one nice pistol! Unlike the regular Firestar, the Plus is about 2/3 the weight. The book says 24oz. The grip is very similar to my BHP in shape and feel. Size wise, though, it's slightly smaller than my Glock26. Weighs less also. Ironically enough, other than muzzle length, it fits perfectly in my G26 IWB hoster. With a 13+1 capacity and SA cocked and locked carry method, (which I prefer), it may replace my G26 as my fair weather CCW.

I ran a box of ammo through it yesterday. Kicks pretty good. Comparable to the Makarov, (which it weighs less than). It's very manageable, however. Towards the end of the box, I was keeping the group at 3in at 15 yards. With more time and practice, my accuracy should improve. Recoil really surprised me initally, though.

I know Star is no longer in business, but I'm curious. What are the pistol's weaknesses, besides support. Anything I should look out for? How about holsters? Any other Firestar Plus owners out there? Thanks ahead of time.

I've got several Stars including two Star Firestar Pluses in 9mm. (They also make a .40 version of the gun, but they're pretty rare.)

I don't know of any weaknesses. They're great guns that just didn't hit the buying public right. (Star established itself as a the maker of good, solid guns that were HEAVY, and the alloy framed models just never got the attention they deserved.)

I used to carry a Kel-Tec P-11 as my concealed carry weapon. I found a Star Firestar Plus in like new condition in a pawn shop for $129, and retired the Kel-Tec.

(I shot my Kel-Tec in a local IDPA match once and never broke out of the middle of the pack; with other guns I generally have among the best times. The first time I tried the Star Firestar Plus I had the best times...)

Parts may be a problem, but somewhere on TFL you'll find the name and number of a guy who bought the STAR parts inventory when they stopped selling them in the US...

Most gunsmiths can make the Star trigger, which is pretty good, exceptional with just a little work.

I had Wild Bill at www.wildbillsconcealment.com make me a tuckable holster, and its my everyday carry gun (when I carry.)

I really like the Firestar, and a cousin, the Astra A70. I am sad that they aren't being made anymore and parts may dry up.

I think these single action pistols are great carry guns and easier for me to shoot than striker guns or DAO.
