Star 9mm - Opinions?

I have recently aquired into my collection a Star pistol. The markings are as follows:

STAR B.ECHEVERRIA
EIBAR-ESPANA S.A. CAL 9mm
Modelo Super
IAC Alex VA <--what??
Serial: E.T. 121XX

.38 Super barrel was included and threaded BTW. 9mm is was also included.

Any information on this one? It is pretty solid and well taken care of. Single action only.

If it is a keeper, I will need new grips and extra mags for sure. My initial feeling is suprisingly good for a gun I have never really heard of.

Any ideas?

Hello. Like you, I kind of like the old Star pistols, particularly the full-size guns. The Modelo Super was offered in 9mm, .38 Super, and I think, .38 Largo. These older designed Stars do have a weakness. The firing pin's held in by a vertical pin under the rear sight so it's a chore to remove and dry-firing without a snapcap or other cushion does tend to break firing pins. Right now, I think Star's out of business and no one's importing their spare parts, etc. Interarms used to, but you might try SARCO or search Shotgun News for spare magazines. They were always somewhat high and I suspect, higher. My Star Model B is reliable and reasonably accurate. Your gun is essentially the same except for the chamber indicator and take-down lever, It think. Best.

"IAC Alex VA" is Interarms Co. in Alexandria, VA on the waterfront. They were once a huge gun importer for the likes of Star, Rossi, etc. They are still in business but under different management and sales are a fraction of what they used to be. I used to drool over their tons-o-guns as a young lad.

I have a friend who owns one and he is very pleased with it. He carries it with him when he is driving. It does seem a little on the heavy side. I think it is basically sound.
I hope this helps,

Great guns. used to have a Star MegaStar with 12 round mags in 45 acp. Built for 10mm and modified for the 45. 4 pounds and accurate as all day. Sold it for an HKP7 though. There is a website:
