My dad got a 45 acp Star full size 1911 clone in the 60 or 70's not sure. Its a reliable pistol thats accurate. He likes the gun. I don't know the model number. Can anyone tell me about its history. Also where can I get my dad a spare mag as it not interchangable with colts. I tried.

Dunno about those, but a friend of mine has a subcompact steel Star .45 quasi-1911 pistol that is literally superb. What a great little pistol. Firestar M-45, I believe.

Sounds like a Model P or PS.
Sarco has PS magazines, but I don't know if they are interchangeable with plain Model P.

There is an outfit that advertises all sorts of magazines near the back of almost every issue of Gun List.

Be advised that some of these guns have full-length firing pins, unlike Colt's inertia firing pin. This makes it actively dangerous to lower the hammer on a loaded chamber instead of merely somewhat risky. I know of two cases of people shooting themselves in the foot with Stars this way.
