stainless or blued?

A friend owns a stainless 10/22 Ruger rifle and says that he's lucky because only one out of ten stainless are really accurate. He advises me to buy the blued one because it's more accurate than SS. Well is this true or its a myth?

Thanks,

I would have a hard time believing that only 10% of the stainless barreled rifles out there are "accurate." What is your friend's definition of "accurate" anyway? Where does your friend get his information from?

I'd get the blued anyway. Stainless ain't as hard as high-carbon (blued)steel. The blued barrel will have more life, and so I'd get that one unless you're just really neglectful of maintainance. JMO. I don't know much about accuracy. I know that Blued steel and stainless have different heat dissapating characteristics, but I don't think that makes much of a difference on your first couple of shots.

I've owned two Mini-14s in blue, and two in SS. All four, with Weaver K-4 scopes, regularly shot a bit under 2" groups at 100 yards.

One of each were among the first made. The others were some ten years later in manufacture. Dunno nuttin' about today's NIBs...
