Stainless Guide Rods - Why?

I have noticed that Kahr sells a SS guide rod for their pistols. I was just curious as to what the reasoning behind this was. Are they heavier, thereby reducing recoil? If that is the reason, are they really heavy enough in comparison to the stock rod to make a difference? Or is it just a cosmetic/rust prevention thing?

I didn't notice the difference when I shot my 1911 w/ a stainless guide god. I did notice the difference shooting my Glock. It felt smoother after installing the stainless steel rod vs. the polymer rod that came stock.
I haven't shot a Kahr, so I don't know how it will effect it, but since Kahr does make a polymer framed pistol, the effect of the stainless steel guide rod should be similar.

I have a Kahr MK40. I think the stainless guide rods are out there for 2 reasons. One is that they will last longer than the plastic ones and the other is cosmetic. There have been a number of posts about it on this board over the last year or so. I don't think anyone made the case that it reduced recoil.

I do know that the one Kahr sells sometimes required a gunsmith to modify them to fit whereas wolf makes some that drop right in, or so I've heard. Try the search function for Kahr recoil springs and you will probably get a number of hits.
