How many of you guys have a Stag model 4 ?

What are you getting for accuracy at 100 and 200 yards ?

I don't have a model 4 but I do have a model 2, 5H, and 6H. All three will shoot sub MOA.

wingman
what are you using for a reload ?
I am going to try some H335 powder with CCI 400 primer and a 55 gr fmjbt.

I use the Sierra 52gr match and Reloader 7, CFE223 or Benchmark all give me under 1 moa in this rifle. I find I always come back to the 52 gr in a 1/9 twist rifle.

I agree with wingman,Mine has a 3x10x50 Leupold & 1in9 twist also,no trouble shooting golf balls off the T @ 200 with Sierra 52gr.Also does well with Hornady Tap-60gr. Use mine for Varmint, hog,Deer as well.

what happens to the accuracy if you used a 55 gr boat tail Hornady ? Are the new Stag model 4's a 1 in 9 twist, I guess I am wrong but I thought they were 1 in 7 twist ?
Has anyone tried H335 powder ?

My stag 3 is 1/9 twist which I prefer, I have tried H335 in 223 with good success, it does better in my bolt action less in the AR, it is an excellent powder. Your stag should shoot well with 55gr but I've always had better accuracy from 52 gr match Sierra and Berger.

I have the 3G upper and running 53 grain Vmax over 26.2 grains of TAC. I'm getting 3180 fps out of the 18" barrel. I can shoot it (scoped) just under an inch at 100 yards, but it stays well under moa out to 300 (longest I've been able to measure) and get reliable hits on the ram silhouette target at 547 yards if I read the wind properly.

During a wind lull just a couple days ago I was able to hold dead on and get three consecutive, rapid hits in the ram's head, and I think that's pretty decent. And yeah, I was actually aiming at the head!

The 53 vmax is high BC bullet for it's weight and definitely worth checking out. On another forum a couple weeks ago there was a good thread on the 53 vmax vs. the 69 and 77 SMK.

what kind of rest are you folks using to obtain less than 1 inch groups ? i test my reloads using just the bi-pod, my shoulder and left hand on the front of the mag. well, my groups are in the 2 inch range no mater what weight bullet, powder charge and CCI 400 primer.

:D are you guys bolting your rifles to a 500 pound block of lead ? ;)

If I'm looking for looking for what I'd call "mechanical" accuracy - the accuracy potential for a load in a rifle, I'll try to remove the shooter from the equation as much as possible. So I'll use sandbags under my trigger hand for support. My other arm and hand folded under more or less under my chin, holding the stock with thumb and forefinger. I can make very small adjustments to my sight picture using that hand.

If I'm shooting for real, benched or prone, I'll do everything exactly the same except no sandbags. The free arm and hand still work as a support. I'm self taught so I don't know anything, but it works for me. That and thousands of rounds downrange I guess.

I phoned Stag and talked to a guy there and asked about the model 4. He said all their current rifles come with M4 feed ramps. He also said the model 4 will shoot 1 1/4 inch groups at 100 yds with factory ammo and will do better with a hand loads.
I am going to try H335 powder, LC brass and CCI 400 primers.
I might try Varget powder but have read it doesn't meter well, has anyone here found that to be true ?

I use a Cabalas heavy front adjustable rest and sand bags in back I have never achieved under one inch with a bipod but have seen others who do.

Powders I've used with good results, h322,h335,h4895,Blc2,Varget, Benchmark, and lately the new CFE223, very good plus barrel is very easy to clean.
