SR22 longevity.

Thinking about buying my two adult daughters SR22s for Christmas to use as trainers. What kind of round count are these guns good for. I don't expect them to last like the Mark series but is 5000 rounds realistic.
 
I bought one of the first SR22s to hit the shelves, back when .22lr was cheap and plentiful. Between the wife and I, it ran through 2k rounds the first week. Lost count after that. I would estimate 5-7k rounds by now.

The recoil spring and mag springs need replacement now, but I just haven't gotten around to it yet. It's still a good shooter, but I have a failure to feed about every 50 rounds because of my lack of maintenance.

I fully expect mine to keep chugging along for another 100k rounds.
 
I wouldn't worry about how long they might last. If something goes wrong, Ruger will fix it. I would also suggest taking a look at the long slide model with the 4.5 inch barrel. They'll find it easier to hit their target with.
