Hello all,
Been a while since I've had the pleasure of a range review. well I'm a sucker for a sale, even sales that aren't that great. somehow I got myself all frenzied at a local shop's going out of bidniz sale and bought an XD-s9 4". I had only shot one other XD-s and it was the 45 3" which was far less than comfortable and a little less than bearable. between my little brother and I, we couldn't make it through half a box of ammo before exchanging it for a different rental. coupling that with the generally poor triggers that I've seen in the stores from dry firing and you get one guy with a terrible case of buyers remorse.
well I decided to take my junky single stack out to the range and see how many shots I could make on paper with the squishy trigger and slim grip in my giant hands. the results were extremely surprising. it only took about half a box of ammo to really loosen up the trigger. it's still not as nice as my XDM 45 compact but heck of a lot better than they are straight from the box, about on par with the standard XD line. the first 25 rounds of american eagle FMJs were slow fire at 10 yards. the group was tiny for a mouse gun, at first I estimated it to be an inch and a half but thinking back now it was probably closer to 2.
the next 50 rounds were mostly play rounds, testing both mags, trying at different ranges between 5 and 25 yards, the number of bullseyes at 25 was also impressive ( b27 center patch target if you were curious). one thing I was extremely imressed with was how fast followup shots are. perhaps it's because I mostly shoot 45ACPs anymore but it seemed like the sights always fell right back on target instantly after the trigger was pulled and recoil management is a dream, even with such a light little pistol.
here in a few days I'll be going back to make some slight adjustments to the sights and test hollowpoints for function so there will be pictures coming soon. for now, suffice it to say, the XDs94 has really changed my opinion on the lineup and assuming it does well with HPs, will definitely become the new daily carry gun.
