Springfield XD Mod 2 vs XDM.

While at my lgs to pick up my new GP100, I poked around the display cases. I came across a duo tone mod 2 subcompact in 9mm. The grip felt really nice, I liked the fiber optic front sight, everything was good except the trigger. A bit of creep to it. I looked at an XDM and the trigger was much better, had different backstraps, but came with standard sights. The price difference between the two wasn't much, and springfield is running their magazine promo till june, so I need help deciding which one to purchase.

I'm probably gonna go with 9mm, and either subcompact w/ extensions or the service/4.5 inch size. I will carry it occasionally, but it will mostly see range time and maybe home defense rotation.

Any big deciding factors for those of you who currently own these pistols?

I think you just answered your own question....get the XDM 4.5. Not to mention the trigger felt better to you. You can always change the sights later.

Not relevant to your choice, but I can't help but express how much I dislike the "Grip Zone" nonsense on the Mod2 XDs. Yes, thanks, I understand that's where I'm supposed to grip the pistol; no need to overhype and trademark every aspect of the pistol.

I'm in the process of trying to decide between a XD Mod 2 in 46 ACP and a XDM compact 3.8 in 45 ACP so I can kind of relate to your dilemma. I am by no means and expert on Springfields, but i would say that if you are going to carry . . . and I pan on making whatever I decide on my EDC to replace what I normally CCW, I would be looking at the smaller compacts. That gives you the option to carry with the smaller magazine but you can still use the extended magazine for a larger grip when range shooting or for around the house for SD. Just something to think about.

A 9mm in a small size should give you a very comfortable and manageable recoil. Do a search for a review video on the different models and see what you think. I have enjoyed watching the reviews by Hickock45 and several others that are higher quality review videos and not just some guy showing his gun and talking aobu tit who know very little.

I agree with the dislike of the marketing cheesiness. However I found their "grip zone" sufficiently better than other similar models to buy one anyway and I haven't regretted it yet I fired the XDM and in my opinion liked the dimensions, feel, grip and even trigger better on the Mod.2.

I'm considering getting their 5" Tactical Mod.2 for range and competition. It will be compatible with the magazines I already have.

mostly copy and pasted from the other XD vs XDM thread

I've never owned the mod2, but I've owned several XDs, XDMs, and XD-s in various calibers and sizes. I still own the XDM45 compact. it is one of the most accurate handguns I've ever owned, the plain jane XD45(pre mod2) I owned was noticeably less accurate. to my knowledge the XD mod 2 does not have replaceable backstraps though, I think that is still an XDM and XD-s only feature. the trigger is noticeably better on the XDM than the XD from all of the models I've owned and compared at the range and in stores. the XD mod 2 does have the nicer fiber optic front sight. the differences between the XD and XDM are most apparent when comparing the 9mm and 40 models because of the higher capacities in the XDM models, but in the 45 offerings they use the same mags so the benefits are somewhat lessened. I am still a die hard XDM fan and would recommend it over just about any other handgun for the money, but if you're really on the fence, it's hard to go wrong with the mod 2.

personally, I would buy the XDM9 3.8 compact. 13 round capacity if you ever decide to carry, 19 rounds for home defense and range time. also, springfield usually sends you some of each when you buy the compact so you should end up with at least 2 compact short mags and two full length full cap mags(but that was with previous gear up campaigns and this is the first time they're giving out 4 mags instead of 2).
