Springfield TRP Operator

Have shot the TRP Operator and the MIL-SPEC, the TRP will out shoot the mil-spec hands down. The TRP does NOT like lead bullets, stay with jacketed. Also the Operator in both models are recoil friendly due to their excessive weight due to utility rail machined into the frame. Holsters are another issue to consider, you're limited.
I personally own the TRP Pro in stainless, not the operator, it's the most accurate 1911 I've owned.( have had all Kimbers, baers, Colts.) My opinion only from past experiences of shooting for over
35 years

MILSPEC Operator

I just purchased a MILSPEC Operator for the handguns for sale section of this forum. A great deal for $499.00 plus shipping. I plan to send it to SA Custom Shop and have it upgraded to TRP for $770.00 includes mag well. If you can find the recent GUNS magazine they have a great article on the TRP Operator. OK so I paid 500.00 plus 770.00 is 1270.00 TRP Operator retails for 1470.00 I got a deal.
Get the MILSPEC shoot it and then have it upgraded. Deb at Springfield is great people to work with.

I think he meant he lives in Stainless...Stainless......New Hampshire! Yeah, that's it...New Hampshire. ;)

The TRP Pro in stainless not teflon came out of the Custom Shop. I'm not on here to continue flames but Gabe, don't give up your day job in your quest to be a comedian, if you do, you'll starve.

In his defense, I have seen a couple of stainless TRP pro's that came out of the custom shop. I was referring specifically to the Operator model with the rail on the dust cover.

Fix,
I've shot the TRP Operator and I thought it was a great gun. It had the M3 Insight Illuminator on it. The gun was a little muzzle heavy which I thought was very nice. The heavier bull barrel and extended dust cover made target re-aquisition very fast and the felt recoil was pretty low. Overall, I thought the gun was really nice. I particularly liked the friction tape covered grips. IMHO I thought that it was *Much* better than checkering. As for accuracy, it was a tack driver. Very accurate. I had one ragged hole at about 25 ft. No fliers.

Since then, I bought a G21 and put the M3 on it. I wanted a light mounted system and I already have several 1911's. For home defense and clearing I might be persuaded that the system is viable but after having the set up I think I might just as well have a high quality 1911 and have a surefire independent of the gun.

If you buy the TRP operator you'll have a tough time finding a holster for it I would guess. But overall I would give it high marks.

With that said, I have grown to kinda dislike the looks of the extended dust cover so I think I would opt for a regular springfield Loaded and send it to Dawson Precision or just buy the mount from him and have it installed. That way you still can use most holsters and still have the light mount. You would save a lot of money I would suspect.

I've made arrangements to go blasting with a TRP Operator this afternoon. Now I just have to pick up 1000 rounds or so on my lunch break. Stand by for range report...

Tell me about it! But you can't blame a guy for tryin', right? ;)

Welcome to TFL, Wunzwas.

All Professionals come out of the Custom Shop.

They all have a serial # that starts with "CRG".

AFAIK, they are all done in Armory Kote, just like the FBI guns.

I researched them pretty heavily before buying one.

Hmmm. I could be mistaken, but either way...my dog's not in that fight. No desire to own a stainless model.

Edited to note that the Standard TRP model is available in stainless. That must have been what I saw. The Pro is only Armory Kote, as noted above.
