I am looking at the Springfield Arms TRP model PC9108L with nightsights, Amory Kote, ect..... The price is $1,099 + $20 shipping. Is this a good deal for Santa?? or should I be looking at Kimber, Colt, ect ??? I know every gun maker has made a few lemons but Springfield Arms does stand behind their guns.

I handled one recently, and it was pretty nice, but I ended up goin with Wilson instead. Main reason I didnt go with Springfield TRP was that I had a bad experience with their Loaded 1911, and the had kind of fallen out of favor with me for a while.

I have a SS loaded model that has been great right out of the box... that was one of the reasons I was looking at the TRP.

Maybe i got a lemon but my Loaded had about 1 failure to feed out of every 50 rounds or so.

Sent it to SA twice, and they couldnt fix it.

I ended up trading it off, and getting a basic Kimber Custom, and it worked fine out of the box.

Like I said, I probably just got a lemon, but it left me feeling bad about SA.

I didnt mean to turn you off... The TRP is supposed to be a real good gun. The price sounds good. Kimber makes some guns in the same price range, but I am not all that impressed with them being really much better than the Custom. I do think the TRP is finished signifcantly better than SA Loaded models, though.

The TRP is a keeper. I have one of the early ones that did not have the night sights, ambi safety or mag well. Mine shoots great and has never had a problem untill today when I noticed that the front sight is loose in it's dovetail. Thats no problem as I will get that fixed or upgrade to Hienie Slant Pro's. Oh by the way the price is good. I don't think you will regret it if Santa brings it to you.;)

I have two TRP's, an Armory Kote and a stainless. I have 500 of my reloads throught the Armory Kote model with only one fail to feed and that was from a known problem mag. After about 400 rounds the set screw on the rear sight began to back out. Locktited it back in. Trigger pull was heavy, i'd say around 6lbs, but has lightened up quite a bit and is crisp. I have one quibble and that is it shoots a tad low.

I just got the stainless and only have 200 rounds through it. The lock up on this one is very tight for a production pistol, almost Baer'ish. I probably had 8 fail to feeds in those 200 rounds but I'm sure this will rectify itself when I get a few more rounds through it. The trigger overtravel screw was loose so I adjusted it myself and locktited it in. Shoots POA. Trigger is around 4.5lb with just a bit of creep. Hopefully the creep will go away with more shooting. The 20 lpi checkering is really well done on both pistols.
