Hello....

I've got the 'semi' O.K. from my wife to get a late Christmas present. Well, I've narrowed it down to two choices..
The Springfield Trophy Match Stainless, Or the Kimber Custom Eclipse. My question is...... Does The Trophy Match Have an Ambidextrous safety (I'm a lefty) AND Checkering on the front strap???? . Some Pics i see Have one or the other, some have both. Whats the Deal? My dealer can get the Springer for $1050, or the Eclipse for $975. And Any Recomendations?
Thanks, And Have a Safe and Happy New Year!

Nova Racer,

As a matter of fact, I took my month old Trophy Match AND my 1 day old Custom Eclipse II to the range just today, and here is what I think. The TM had only 100 rounds through it so it is not broke in yet but, I found that out of the box the nod has to go to the Eclipse. Fit and finish on both guns was very good although the Kimber did feel a little smoother when racking the slide. Trigger pull was awful on the TM, mustabin at least 7-8# while the Kimber was light and crisp and should break in fine. Both fed well with S&B 230 gr. ball and CCI Blazer 230 gr. ball. Stock mags worked well on both and Wilson 47 D's ran good also. The Eclipse shot a nice group with a 6:00 hold and the TM shot all over the place but the trigger was so friggen heavy it was hard to squeeze off a good shot. I will send off the TM to a local smith for a little trigger work and re-run the comparo. I think the TM will be a good gun, it just ain't finished yet. I am impressed with the Kimber and I guess there is a difference. I have 3 Springers, A V-10 which I love, A 9mm which I love, I guess I am A little disappointed that SA would let a gun go with that heavy a trigger.

Hope this helps (oh yeah, I gave $940 for the Eclipse)

OOps.......Yes, the TM has an ambi-saftey and a checkered front strap. So does the Eclipse. I think the TM is 20 LPI (?) and the Eclipse is 30 LPI(?). The Kimber was a little easier on the fingers.

Auggie,
Spotted a Kimber Stainless Gold Match, It Had EVERYTHING Except front strap checkering........But it was a Beauty, had the best lookin' wood grips i've ever seen so i came home with it.
Couldn't help myself :D

Too bad, they should ditch the front slide serrations in favor of front strap checkering. I can't imagine ANYONE would object to that. Okay, okay...just ditch those gawdawful slide serrations already and we'll call it a deal ! :p

I agree!

Forward slide serrations are the goofiest, most gawd-awful thing anyone ever did to a 1911!

Uggghh {shudder} :barf:

I heard that, Front slide serations just so you can pinch it back to see if a round is in the chamber.. What a waste. If a man don't know if a round is in the chamber or not, Has no business with a .45!, This Gold Match Is Accurate as heck! one ragged hole groups at 20 yards.. I LOVE IT!!!!!!

Now look, those front cocking serrations improve reliability, cures heavy trigger pull, cures point of aim problems, cures trigger jerk, cures barrel fit problems and instantly transforms the shooter into a world class marksman. Just like putting racing stripes and flames on an AMC Pacer. HAAAAA, ha, ha, ha.:D
