Springfield Range Officer Compact in 9mm?

hello all,
I was perfectly content to keep buying cheap handguns, until curiosity got the better of me. I was killing time on my lunch break and stopped by my local big box store and noticed that they had some springfield EMPs. I've been a little curious about them so I tried them and was not impressed at all. the super short sight radius was awful to try and line up a quick shot and the grip texturing was like gripping a pack of rusty razorblades. well after a while the guy behind the counter just started handing me random guns as fast as I could dry fire until he handed me a Range Officer compact in 9mm. I own the RO full sized in 45ACP and it's the most accurate handgun I own and I have to say, the thought of having its little sibling as a carry piece intrigues me, especially for $400 less than the EMP. but I do have some questions if there's anyone that owns one.

1. is finding reliable mags difficult in the 9mm? I notice the EMPS come with 9 round mecgar mags but the RO comes with 8 round springfield stamped mags, any difference in reliability?

2. how hard is it to find reliable mags, both flush fit and full length?

3. I've never had an issue with ammo in my 45 but I have to ask if anyone's found the 9mm models or compact models to be picky about ammo.

I'm sure I'll find more questions as I look more closely at this. thanks in advance.

Mags are an easy find for them. Avoid Mec Gar, or Pro Mag. Metal Form are the. Best bang for the buck. Chip McCormick, and Wilson Combat make mags for them as well. I just bought 2 MF for my RIA. 1911 in 9mm. The Mec Gar mag it came with now resides in my junk bin.

I have been carrying a Range Officer Compact in 45 for a couple of years, and it's been fantastic. A shooting buddy of mine shot my gun and loved it, but he wanted one in 9mm. He recently received his gun and we went to the range to try it out. It is an extremely tight gun in 9mm, and he had some issues with 115gr ammo, but 147gr did fine. He called SA, and they said to stay away from the 115gr in the beginning until he shoots the gun for a while. The next time we went to the range he shot 115gr and 147gr without any issues. I think SA was correct in that the gun just needed some shooting to work out the kinks.

I thought the gun was a blast to shoot (forgive the pun). It's just like my 45 without much recoil. my buddy is very please with his ROC in 9mm, and it's quickly becoming his EDC. I've been shooting 1911s for a long time, and it think my ROC is the most reliable 1911 I have owned right out of the box. If the 9mm turns out as reliable, it will make a great carry gun if you like 9mm.
