Springfield Long-Slide V-16 Ported .45 Super

Anyone have experience with this pistol? Looks pretty cool from the write-up I saw - chronographed .45 super 165 grainers at about 1355 fps, and 230 grainers at about 1136 fps, IIRC, with pleasant recoil due to the 16 ports (dual lines of 8 each). The article didn't show a price. Anyone know how much?

I, too, am seriously interested in this gun. We probably read the same mag. There is one listed on gunsamerica.com for $850. The article stated a list of $830, but that was in mid '99. $850 seems like a good price on what should be a very highly demanded gun. Custom accuracy and unsurpassed power for production prices. Plus, Springfield is considered by many to be THE most reliable 1911.

Wow, I agree that's a good price for this cool piece. It's the consummate pin gun. I think I shall start saving (Yeah, that's one of 20 different guns I'm saving for. Grrrr.)

Trying to revive this thread. I've been considering getting one of these myself. Anyone out there have one to rave about? :)
I'm also curious as to the difference between .45 ACP and .45 super. I know the super is hotter, but how much hotter? I'd probably be shooting primarily .45 ACP anyway, but if .45 super isn't a substantial gain, I would settle for one of the slightly cheaper non-ported longslide models.
I don't know how Springfield's retail pricing relates to their dealer prices, but they show the retail on that gun to be $899 if I remember right, I'd think it could be had in the "real world" for under 800 but it doesn't appear to be that way...
Any further info or owner's opinions greatly appreciated :)

A guy in the club I belong to has one and let me shoot a couple of mags full. Had the recoil of a Govt. with ave. ammo. Very controlable. Fairly accurate (3" at 25yd and I am NOT a marksman). One note: that thing really barks. There were folks coming from all points on the line to see what was making all that noise. Its on my "to get" list. Not very high on the list but on the list nontheless.
