I guess they are kinda new. Anyone heard anything about them?? Anyone own one?? Been trying to find one at a gunshop to see and handle but no such luck. Really want to get one but since I can't find one, looking to settle for a ultra compact I guess. Any input appreciated.

Thanks.

Good luck getting an answer regarding Springfield Armories compacts and ultracompacts. I tried to round up some info myself after trying "search". No luck.
All I can say is that silence must mean something. My guess? The "Cult of the Glock" has replaced the "Cult of the 1911" as far as compact carry pieces go.
One thing though, smaller framed pistols, with "larger" rounds are'nt a control issue with me, it's just that they are too small for my hand. Uncomfortable. If it fits your hand well and you can get a good solid grip, and reach all the controls I say go for it!:D

Young Guns has a NIB PX9161L on auction at Gun Broker. Same thing (Stainless, night sights), but Ultra compact (3.5" barrel instead of 4"). If they're really that hard to come by, you may want to give the Ultra compact some thought. Don't dally too long, as the auction is over in about 9 hours. There aren't any bids yet, so if you miss it, you may have another chance. If a Young Gun piece doesn't sell, they usually list it for bid again.

Well, I don't have the exact one you're asking about, but it's close. Mine is the PX9503L, in other words the matte version. As far as I can tell it's essentially the same thing. I'm not real sure what you need to know, but I can tell you that it has worked quite well for me. No failures of any kind so far and I have put several hundred assorted rounds through it with probably about 50-60 JHP of varying types in that mix.

The only problem I have with it is the alloy frame is rather easy to scratch, but on the other hand, it's a much lighter gun than the same size SS compact Kimber that I almost bought. It's really easy to carry and I really like the Novak night sights on it. It has been a very good gun for me for the short period that I've owned it.

I bought what they call the Micro Compact. Model# PX9801L
Shoots and handles great. Some of the specs are: 3"fully supported tapered bull barrel, Novak Low Mount Tritium Sights, slimline cocobolo wood grips, ambi thumb safety. It has what Springfield calls their Bold super smooth and rounded Extreme Carry Bevel Treatment. It looks similar to the Kimber Ultra CDP. There is a post on the 1911 forum (which is up now) under Spingfield / Micro pics. Hope this answers some of your questions.

Got the compact, alloy, stainless w/nightsights, not sure the model number right now. Had a problem with it shooting 10" high at 25yds, SA fixed it in 1 week turnaround. put about 500 rds through it with the only jams in the first two magazines through the gun (they were light target loads and it just wouldn't cycle), other than that 100% reliability. Trigger is pretty light for a carry gun at about 3.5lbs. Excellent accuracy easy to carry..Like it alot, trust it...Will see how the alloy holds up long term...No complaints here..
