Springfield Armory X-D

I just got my March issue of Handguns magazine and this pistol was on the front cover.

It is a polymer framed pistol that looks kinda like a cross between a Glock and a S&W Sigma. It has a trigger similar to the Glock and it also has a grip safety.

It is a Crotian design and is imported/sold by Springfield Armory.

The suggested retail is 498.00.

Are these pistols on the market yet?

Does anyone have one or at least seen one?

They've been on the market...

...for quite some time; do a search on "HS2000". ;)

(BTW, I got a chance to shoot an XD-40; nice gun.)

I was going to get one, until I started thinking (which always gets me in trouble). I've seen threads re: "guinea pigs" & "poor quality polymer," and was wondering what kind of testing have these things gone through? It is a relatively new gun (even as a HS2000) there probably aren't too many out there w/ enough rounds to tell whether or not it can survive the rigors of being a handgun available to an American public.
I'm not saying this gun is bad or good. As I've stated, I want to get one (I like the idea of that safety ;) and it just fits my hand ). I'm just being cautious.

The Croation Army has used them for quite some time. I have read that Springfield is expecting to receive a shipment of high-cap mags which will be available to the public. The mags are reported to be Army surplus made in 1991. So apparantly the HS200 is at least that old. I have an XD in lay-away now. My brother already has his and it shoots like a dream. I think they will be the hot new rage in handguns. I'm about to get flamed, but I think they are a big improvement over a Glock. The chambers are fully supported, the frame rails are larger/sturdier and the trigger doesn't go SPROING. They also have a loaded chamber indicator and a safety (grip safety ala 1911 style). Plus, to me they feel better in the hand. All this for about $400.00 (My brother and I paid $409.00). You can sometimes find used HS2000's for $250-275, but not often because most people that own them don't want to get rid of them.

The chambers are fully supported...

There's that "unsupported chamber" thing again.

AMUSING ANSWER TO UNASKED QUESTION

The world isn't hurt, nor is it a better place, by the arrival of another plastic gun (except this one has way more geegaws/mechanical complexity than a Glock).

My personal ferrous-based opinion? Oh goody, more plastic junk (yes, I KNOW this is a high-quality plastic piece of junk), but it answers NO questions Glock or H&K haven't already answered -- proven answers.

Can anyone here pronounce CZ?........

Whew, I'm gonna need Nomex, ay?

...but it answers NO questions Glock or H&K haven't already answered...

WESHOOT2: I'm going to have to disagree with you on that. My HS2000 and my XD40 answer two such questions to my satisfaction: Can I find a reliable polymer pistol whose grip fits me better than a Glock's? And can I find a quality polymer pistol without spending anywhere near $500?

On the other hand, I'll agree whole heartedly about CZs. I just love my PCR. :D

Take care. Marko

HS2000 owners are like KelTec owners.
They seem to be a rabid, loyal bunch.
:D

I handled one, and I liked the way it felt, and at the time, I thought it was a great buy for $300.
As I stated in another thread, I don't like owning a gun designed for 15 rounds, if I can't get 15rd mags for it.
Call me weird.

Yes, you can modify other hi-cap mags, but they stick out, don't always activate the slide lock, etc.
Now, if a supply of hi-caps became available, that would be cool, even at $400.

Personally, I'm always glad to see a different design or a new price point, on a handgun.
Maybe help sway some non shooters to try the sport.
That helps all of us.

Call me weird, but I'd rather pay $12.99 each and drill a hole and do some filing to get a hi-cap rather than pay up to $100 each for a "drop free" hi-cap.

But that's just me.:)

I disagree as well. HK (my personal fave) HAS answered the question because they have a safety and a loaded chamber indicator. Glocks do not.

By the way, I have been considering a CZ myself. What kind of bluing or coating are on their black guns? It looks like it is spray paint. I'm not trying to be funny, I'm really curious. Thanks.

My Glocks have the same loaded chamber indicator that my P7M8 and Beretta 96 do: the extractor is visibly raised when there's a round under it. ;)

(Of course, this is a moot point, because if the pistol is not field-stripped, then there's a round in the chamber.)

Shootin' Shane,

The flat black CZ-75B pistols are parkerized, then coated in a black polymer finish called "Polycoat." So far mine has held up very well, and I think looks nice for a mil-spec type finish.

You can also get the CZs in a high-polish blue finish, nickel or two-tone blue-nickel.

Thanks, CastleBravo. I have only examined the flat black CZ. I would like to see the polished blue one. They sure do feel good in the hand. Shane
