I am sure it will be an excellent pistol for you. Springfields are some of the nicest mass produced 1911s out there. I have a Loaded model 5" parkerized that I have had for about 2 years. It has been very good to me and is very accurate. Very reliable as well. The Range Officer is more target oriented. So if you plan on carrying this gun you may consider the loaded champion (compact) instead as it has tritium fixed night sights and a basic carry bevel, as well as ambidextrious extended safety levers, front cocking serrations, and a full length guide rod.

If you like that particular pistol I would say $899 is a fair price, and worth buying, although they can be had for less than that. My gunshop has a 5" range officer 9mm brand new for $750. I bought my 5" loaded model for $799 plus tax 2 years ago.

Good luck and be sure to keep us updated

P71- The OP said he's looking at the Range Officer Compact, it's a 'CCO' style with an aluminum frame and fixed sights.
