Springfield Armory EMP in 40 S&W

What is the general consensus on this forum about this pistol in terms of accuracy and reliability? I'm not seeking opinions on the 40 S&W caliber. I have four 1911's in 45 ACP and four other polymer pistols also in 45 ACP. I have one S&W M&P in 40, so I'm thinking about adding to my collection in that caliber and just want to know what people think of the EMP.

I have been told by LGS staff that this model has had problems in .40 cal. Others here likely know much more, just alerting you.

I see quite a few of them in 9mm at my local range...and a buddy has one in 9mm....

My buddy has had a lot of feeding issues / mostly mag issues with his / but in general I hear they're finnicky on ammo. The EMP is not a traditional 1911...it has a number of proprietary parts in it ...and as far as I know you have to use the EMP mags. I can't recommend the gun based on the reliability and feeding issues I see and hear about -- but I do not own one.

I've had both the 9 and the 40, I have neither now and I don't sell pistols. They are beautiful pistols and feel like they belong in your hand but they just aren't that accurate. Plus they need another $500 bucks of additional work to make them shooters.
I originally bought a .40 and thought it was just a fluke so I sold it and bought a 9. Well--same -CENSORED--CENSORED--CENSORED--CENSORED- different pistol. They are just not accurate like you would hope.

I also had a 9mm EMP and sold it only recently. Mine was a great gun but I was consolidating and when I compared my EMP to My P7's the 3 P7's made more sense to keep over the EMP.

As is pointed out above it is somewhat of a unique beast. Mine was quite accurate and easy to carry. I did notice the heal butt would get me on an IWB carry.

The new 4" one is making me think I made a mistake so I might buy it back. It would kill me to have to buy those mags again.

As an EMP carrier, I watched the 40 reports. Yes, the guns had some early teething problems. These tended to be resolved in time so if you bought a new one I would not worry about it.

All in all a great gun, but given the choice of selling my 3 P7's to keep one EMP as a carry gun, I kept the three I had so I had backup.

EMP in 40

I created an account just to answer your concern. :)
I have the 9 and 40 EMP flavors. ALmost bought a comparable STI model, but these held one round more in each caliber and side-by-side, seemed to be closer to my ideal EDC.

I'm moving to 9mm just to simplify, but of all the 40 I've ever shot, the EMP 40 is the finest recoil sponge I've ever used. 40's a little heavier than the 9, but the extra weight and balance seems to really offset recoil and nullify the 40 snappiness so follow on shots can be had very quickly and accurately.

Occasionally I have failure to go bang with Freedom Munitions. Out of a case, I may have two boxes with 4-5 each with this issue so it's not a real hassle. Same round will go bang in the Glock 23. I may have Springie send me a new firing pin. Don't have this issue with any other ammo, even Tula and other notoriously cheap stuff.

Hornaday Critical and Corbon DPX carry stuff is 100% reliable, about $100 of each down the barrel at random intervals to stay real. I have never had any feeding issues among 6 mags with any ammo.

Both are very convenient to carry.

Other than CTC laser grips, I've not been compelled to do much "improvement" besides a horsehide holster and some cool grip screws. It's really complete as-is. I just got annoyed grabbing the wrong mag or ammo at the range (or EDC mix ups) so I decided to cull the herd a bit and 40 pistols are going to be sold.
