Springfield Armory 9mm 1911 questions

Hello everyone. This goes out to owners past and present of the Springfield 9mm 1911. Can anyone tell me if the barrel is fully supported or ramped? What kind of magazines are you using? I am hearing that Metalform 9mm's are the way to go? Has anyone had to load handloads long for the gun to function properly? How does factory ammo run in this gun? Last question-what recoil spring weights are you running?

Sorry for all the questions, but this gun really interests me and I would like to know that it works well instead of sorta, ya know?

Thank you in advance

You may wanna try a search on that topic, there have been some recent threads that may answer your Q's. Or you could try 1911forum.com

The barrel is ramped and has good support. I use Chip McCormick .38 Super 10 rounders and have had no failures. Alliant Power Pistol seems to work well in my pistol. Winchester White box is pretty much the only factory ammo I use in the thing and have never had a problem. I went to a heavier spring (old 18.5#, probably closer to 17#) because the factory weight (14#) seemed to take forever to cycle the action.

Older guns have standard 1911 config. Grossly unsupported chambers with steep feed ramps. Mine worked great with fmj ammo and .38 super mags. Didn't even try hollow pts.

New (loaded) guns have integral feed ramps. The proper mags should have spacers in the back. Since there seem to be no consent which mags work the best (in any caliber) get Mec-Gars cause they are cheapest of the quality brands and take it to the good smith to perform a 1911 Voodoo to make it work.

Full size 1911 in 9mm are way fun to shoot.

Mine are bot 2001 Loaded models (Full size and Ultra Compact) and each has a ramped barrel.

I use Mec-Gar .38 super mags without problems and the factory ammo that has run thru mine without failures includes CCI Blazer FMJ, IMI JHPs, and Sellier & Bellot FMJs.
