Springfield Armory .45?

Bottom Gun

Tried to use the search function, but it's disabled right now.

A co-worker is trying to sell me a stainless full size Springfield Armory .45 ACP with beavertail grip safety, Novak sights, and guide rod.
I don't know much about SA since I've been shooting Colts and Kimbers.

Can anyone give me some feedback on these guns?
Are they worthwhile?
Any idea of the value?

Thanks in advance,

BG

Does it have forward slide serrations?

If so, it's one of their newer "loaded" guns. I'm very favorably impressed with these things.

Some will not agree, but I prefer my Springfields to either my Colts or my Kimbers in full-size, top-quality 1911A1s.

Ledbetter's limited experience

I like my Mil-Spec real fine. First day I got it, I went to shoot and it rained. Well, I shot it anyway, in the pouring rain. Functioned flawlessly, right out of the gun shop. It was used, but just barely. Stripped, cleaned and lubed it after and it just keeps going. Feeds FMJ and Hydra Shoks just fine. Not the most accurate 1911 I've ever shot, but the loaded models should be better.

Good luck and regards.

The only thing I'm not completly stisfies with thus far with my Springfield loaded 1911 is the staked fromt post.

Eventually I'll have to dove tail it.

Other than that, they are reasonably priced, accurate and reliable pistols.

I recommend them for folks wanting to purchase a quality NIB 1911 while still maintaining a relatively low price point.

Thanks for the input, Folks.

I looked at it about an hour ago. It's the loaded model and it's like new. I doubt it has had more than a box of ammo through it.
It comes with two 7 rd SA magazines, two 8 rd stainless Colt magazines, and an extra two piece guide rod. The one feature I didn't care for was the mainspring housing, which appears to be plastic but that's easily corrected.
He wants $475 for it.

Now I need another 1911 like I need a third eye, but I told him I'd take it.
:D

I have a class at the range tomorrow morning, but I'll head for the desert in the afternoon and wring it out a bit. I'll let you know how it does.

Thanks again for all your help.

Excellent choice. I have a full-size Springfield Loaded, and it is a good, solid handgun. I put MMC adjustable sights on the rear, and had Springfield dovetail a front sight in, but only because that's how I wanted it; it worked just fine without my tinkering. I have no doubt that you'll be a happy camper.

I've only had my SA Loaded for a short time but after 500 rounds of various types of JHP and FMJ ammo and no malfunctions I am very happy with it.

You got a good price, too. Be sure to let us know how she shoots!

Springfield....

....if you can get past the FI Brazil stamp, pimped-out look of the stainless loaded models, and if you can live with the blocky, out of spec dust cover and grip, it's a good pistol.
Nothin' says it like a Springfield if you wanna' be the man in da hood!

The gun you're considering sounds exactly like one I bought just over a year ago for $525. That was a great price, because most places were selling it for up to $100 more.
I've since had it back to Springfield once, and they were absolutely fantastic.
Sounds like a great deal to me.

Texian,

I've done more than consider it. I bought it and have posted a review on it in this forum.
Bottom line: I like it.
