Springfield Armory 1911 A1

You could drag it across a parking lot, change out all the springs, put a compensator on it, or-you could leave it alone. I suggest the latter unless you have a lot of experience.
 
I would maybe put a set of Hougue rubber grips on it. They have a few varieties and are great. They also have non rubber ones but I just love the grip of their rubber ones.
 
Depending on what your intended use of the gun is, something like this might work for you.

My mantra is Keep it Simple.

I try to keep mine as close to the way they come out of the box as possible. The only exceptions are mainspring housings. I prefer flat as they fit my hand better. Otherwise, a 'reliability package' if you have any feeding issues. If not, leave it alone.
 
If it is a GI model, upgrade it to Loaded specs from Springfield Armory or Brownell's.

I have the Loaded stainless and it is great, but could use a melt job. There are lots of sharp edges.

Factory stock grips with cross cannons are my favorite, I got them from Springfield direct. Rubber grips from Hogue are great when shooting a lot.

Wilson Combat 47D mags work great. But I also like the factory ones made by MetalForm.

"Loaded" barrel is match quality, I have great accuracy with mine, but I don't think it is a fully supported chamber.

Nice coating like Ed Brown or Les Baer have are very nice.

45 Super is pretty nice performance. If you have the Loaded (not Lightweight or other alloy model), you basically just upgrade the springs to run 45 Super loads.
