Springfield A1 Opinions

I was looking at a brand new Springfield 1911 A1 at my local gunstore the other day. I already have a Kimber Ultra Carry, but I was looking for something that I could use in IDPA in their stock pistol catagory. The price on this one is about $570, which is a bit less than the Kimbers, so I was just curious on what everybody's experiences have been with these pistols. Thanks

Alex,I've had quite a few Springfields and currently own a 1911A1 Loaded.A great pistol at a very affordable price.I've got several more expensive 1911's to compare it to and still believe it's the best gun for the money.tom.

I have a pair of Springfields one in ss and one that is parkerized. Both of these guns are great. They will eat anything I can put through them, and are quite fond of National Bullet co. 200gr LSWC.

I really like my Springfields (stainless loaded and ArmoryKote TRP); I have had no problems with either and (literally) trust my life to the TRP almost daily.

The "best" 1911A1-type semiautomatic certainly must be in the top five TFL subjects. Accordingly, if you check our archives (see Search above) you will find hundreds of informative threads and thousands of posts by real experts.

I like my Springfield 1911A1 alot. Mine is the ss loaded edition also. It has taken all brands of ammo with zero failures, I paid $630 for mine (PRK) and don't regret it a bit. Now, if I could just shoot up to it's potential!!

SA loaded 1911s are the best bang for the buck.

Unlike other "best bangs for the bucks," you'll be hard pressed to beat them performance wise. (Untill you enter the custom market, that is.)

I purchased a SS loaded model in .45acp. After aproximately 100 rounds or so, I noticed that I was aiming to far to the right. It was then that I noticed that the rear sight had slid halfway off the dovetail. I re-tightened it, shot some more and after 50 rounds or so, it started to slide off again. This time I kept shooting until finally it flew off. I retightened it a number of times but it kept working loose. I have been advised to use lock-tite(sp) on it but I would liike to be able to adjust my sight windage wise. So now the gun is on its way back to SA.

Its a nice gun but I was dissapointed on the quality of work on the rear sight dovetail.
