Springfield 1911A1 9mm

I just have to say.....

My Nephew bought a new Springfield M1911A1 in 9mm a couple months ago. Had a trigger job done to it before even shooting it. Total price including trigger job was $950. He let me shoot it yesterday. I am impressed! I shot it "off hand" (bullseye style) 5 rounds at 25 yards, using factory ammo, WWB if I recall. Shot at a rapid fire Bullseye cadence. Nailed the black on a B-8C target. The sights were outstanding, even for these old eyes. Nice and smooth, manageable recoil. I credit some of that to the heavy barrel being the OD is the same as a .45acp but a 9mm ID. I really have to get one of these!

If you are toying around with the idea of getting a Springfield in 9mm, I'd say do it.

I love my Springfield 1911 loaded model .45

One day I will get another Springfield and do the .460 rowland conversion

I have a loaded 1911-A1 and so does my son. They are very good shooters. I don't see them listed in Springfield catalog and a phone call to them advised me the gun has been discontinued. Some dealers may have them but I had a terrible time finding the two I bought. I am assuming the model is PI9134LP.

I had a Springfield Loaded 9mm 1911 and I have a 9mm STI Trojan now. There is no doubt in my mind that the heavier barrel puts more weight on the muzzle and helps to control the recoil of an already lighter 9mm ropound.

Springfield 1911A1 in 9mm

In December of 2013 I bought a used Springfield 1911A1 in 9mm.

I replaced the extractor with a heavy duty one from Evolution Gun Works, and also replaced the recoil spring.

I bought Wilson ETM magazines at the same time.

The gun is quite reliable and pleasant to shoot. Prior to replacing the extractor I had some malfunctions, but that problem has gone away.

The gun is stock except for bigger & more visible sights.

I have a Stainless Loaded Target in 9mm. It seems Springfield is limiting the 9mm to the compact EMP and the Range Officer at this point, at least that's all they show on their website at the moment

Nice! I was just about to post a thread on 1911's at given price points. The Springfield is on the list of guns that I was interested in. I really want one but it'll have to wait until next year. :(

I own a Loaded in .45. Other than a mil-spec I used to own, none of the Springfields I've shot or handled needed a trigger job, IMO. Springfields are good, solid guns.

I had one for several years. Great shooter. I still have it, but it is now shooting 38 Super after its conversion.

As good as it was before, it is now even better.

I bought a Springfield 1911 RangeOfficer 9mm, just after they came on the market. At the time I'd just begun shooting a SIG X-5 9mm, which made me feel the RO trigger wasn't good enough. A local gunsmith did a $50 trigger job. Made it into a really, really nice handgun. I've put 2,000 rounds thru it without a hiccup.

The RO compares favorably with the STI 1911 Range Master 9mm, a couple of SIG 1911's in .45ACP and a DW Guardian 9mm. I've just placed an order for a STI 1911 Target Master 9mm (6 inch) to add more variety to my 1911's.

The 1911's by STI, WC, Les Baer, Ed Brown, DW, NightHawk and others offer some appeal. But, surely the appeal is cosmetic. I'm unsure the others shoot any better, or more accurately than the Springfield RO.
