Springfield 1911 in 9mm

A local dealer has a shiny, stainless 1911 in 9mm. It's cheap, and with new legislation coming everyday, a threatened species.

Anyways, I've already got a Kimber in .45 and a couple other full size handguns. This gun is not exactly want I want or need right now, but it's something I can see kicking myself down the line for not buying (read: AR-15).

Are these 9mm 1911's worth buying ? Are they accurate, reliable ?

P.S.,

I'm not at all concerned that it's "only a 9mm". I find that only more intriguing. I like the idea of having a 1911 I can afford to shoot ;).

If you want a 1911 that's inexpensive to shoot, 9x19mm sounds like the way to go. There's nothing wrong with a pistol chambered inthat round. Go for it. :)

If I wanted a 9mm, single-action, John Browning designed gun, I would take a look at the Browning Hi-Power.

I hear that these Brownings are being imported again.

The Hi-Power is designed around the 9mm cartridge, and I believe it is more size-efficient.

World-wide, the H.P. may be the most common combat handgun. Where ever you go in the world, ammo and parts are likely to be available.

tried finding my previous posts on this subject but my brain dont seem to be working well this morning, i have the pistol in question and love it, it is very reliable and very accurate, recoil is nil, i popped a slighty stronger recoil spring in it because the action felt kinda lazy with the stock spring, have to fire hotter loads now though

i liked it so much that when i saw a Springfield Ultra Compact 9mm in the display case Wednesday i snapped it up, can't wait to shoot it tomorrow

Second on the Browning HiPower

I second the motion on the Browning HiPower. I had one for several years and really enjoyed it. Feels very good in the hand. I am not much a 9mm fan, hence the sale of that Browning. Springfield Armory also makes a good 1911 pistol. I own two and love them. Have been reliable as long as I don't try to "pistolsmith" beyond my capabilities. The Browning will give you higher capacity if you can find a pre-ban gun or magazine.

I have owned a BHP Practical and now own a SA 9mm PX9130L, great gun, I have had no problems thus far. I would highly recommend.

I own a Springfield 1911 parkerized version and it has been a very reliable handgun. It's also cheaper to shoot than my .45acp guns. Go for it they are good guns.

I purchased a Springfield 1911-A1 "loaded" ultra compact 9 mm with stainless finish last week. This is the first gun I have ever owned. When I got it to the range I couldn't fire a single shot without an ejection malfunction. When I fished the spent cartridges out of the chamber the casings were scratched up pretty badly. I had to send my brand new gun back to the factory :( The reason I went with Springfield is because they have a pretty good reputation for quality and service. Hopefully I'll get it back soon...

I love mine. I have only had one problem. The rear sight walked left. It doesn't like the Black Hills pointy ammo.
I love the gun. It is accurate, fast (I changed spring) and fun to shoot.
