Springfield 187N double fires

I have the same rifle with the same problem. I've dimantled and cleaned many times, but no fix. Haven't persued further. Mine will shoot 6 - 8 rounds so quickly, you thought it double fired. Usually jams after 4 - 8 rounds. I'm thinking whatever catches the firing pin, when it kicks back, is worn out. Please let me know if you find a fix before I go buying random parts. Thanks.

Been down this road. The first or primary sear works the firing pin, the secondary catches the bolt body and holds it back until you release the trigger. Possibilities: worn secondary sear, worn notch in bolt body, or as in the last one I had, the link between the primary and secondary sear may be bent. It should be straight to keep the timing of the two correct. If the bolt will not stay back when you fire and hold the trigger to the rear, the problem is related to the secondary sear or the link. Here endeth the lesson. Goatwhiskers

:cool:OK I just wish that the sear had a definate tell but on tare down I could not find that the bolt body or the sears had any wear, all edges are sharp not rounded. Though it must be in the trapping of the bolt. The only obvious damage was to the alluminum pins, two are bent I am thinking of replacing them with steal before I order any parts.

Does it double when firing from an offhand position?

A friend had a similar Stevens that if I shot it from sandbags and "milked" the trigger, it would run away until it jammed or was empty.
It did not do it for me offhand or for him in any position.

Semiautos are more sensitive to handling than you might suspect.

I'd fix it or get it fixed. Everybody is sensitive to such things since the feds arrested the guy for a malfunctioning rifle that would go auto.
