Springfield 12 Gauge Value

My friend has asked to me to see if I could find out what the value of the shotgun his Grandfather had given him some years ago.

On the receiver it has Springfield Arms Company, Chicopee Falls, Mass. USA

On the removable front stock it has B 3 87 carved into the wood and it is also stamped on the lock-up mechanism.

On the barrel and inside the receiver it has the # 78409 stamped on them. The barrel also has W.A.P.T. and BARREL AND LUG FORGED IN ONE PIECE stamped on it.

It is a single shot and this is about all of the information I have on it. If anyone can shed some light on the possible value of this shotgun, I would GREATLY appreciate it.

Blitz, no SS shotgun other than special purpose trap guns pack much collector value, not even the Winchester 37, the best of the lot. Posting this on Harley Nolden's might get a faster response.

As a family gun it packs greater sentimental value than it will fetch in the market. Old, cheap SS shotguns are common and bring little when sold.

Also, I'd be hesitant to shoot that thing, even with light loads, unless a good smith looked it over first.
