Somewhere, sometime (how's that for being specific) I saw a posting about how to approximate a springs weight by measuring the diameter of the spring wire. Does anyone remember that post and where I might find it? Thanks in advance
Walt
For the D-I-Y'r, some use a drill press as a fixture to compress the spring onto a home bathroom scale, reading the compression per inch via a machinist's ruler set next to the spring. Note that spring design [linear or progressive due to windings] and/or manner of terminating the ends can add to the variables of rate.
Or for the serious minded, you can follow Alex's formula from this post on the benchrest forum [www.benchrest.com forum]:
