Springfield M1A squad scout- Feedback?

Ooops never mind - shoulda done a search first. Looks like this is a done deal.

I'm thinkng about trading off some (many) goodies and a little cash for a new Springfield M1A squad/ scout. Does anyone have one? They are expensive...do you think they are worth it? Positives vs negatives? This looks like a great choice for a high quality do anything rifle (HD, SHTF, hunting, etc) . Waddya think?
Appreciate any feedback. Atticus

Very few here have one I think.

I like mine because it`s different. I have an Aimpoint Red Dot mounted on the forward rail. I`ve heard they`re not quite as accurate as the longer barreled standard but to me it`s not a big deal. It hits the bull at a hundred yards and that`s what I expected. I haven`t tried it any further yet. For 300 and better, I`d guess the longer barrel and a different scope would be in order.

I think S/A is discounting right now because at a gun show this weekend I saw a loaded standard with a walnut stock for $1100 and a loaded standard with a composite for $1000. That was with the $99 coupon for the scope package. Still a nice piece of change. I almost went back yesterday for the walnut but decided not to. DCM Garands were $1000 too and I`d like to get one direct. I`m waiting on the paperwork.

Semi auto is no good for hunting here in Pa. and I don`t think any center fire rifle is good for home defense unless you neighbors are in the next county. For SHTF types, I think it would be adequate,:D especially with a forward mounted scope. There`s some good threads on S/A versus others.

dinosaur: Thanks for the reply. Actually there are a number of posts on file here at TFL on the subject and I learned a lot from them. But you never know, someone who loved their gun a month ago may be bashing it now. Seeems that he M1A and M1A scout owners seem to be pretty content if not thrilled . The cost is a little high (for me anyway) so I do appreciate the feedback.

I love my M1A. It's $$$, but hey, with girlfriend/wife/guns, spend more now so you can have the best forever... yes?

You can bitch about the price, until you double tap the same hole, then the price becomes not so important... :D

Lesser men carry lesser guns...

Mrs. Different was given the choice of any rifle available on the market. She chose the M1A Scout. She would have gone with the standard model M1A but at 4'11" in height she thought the Scout a better match for her.

I bought one a while ago when these shorties were call "brush" rifles. I loved it then and still love it now. I'm not much of a rifleman, but (with a scope) I can bang some gongs quite a ways "out there". Hope you have a mag source lined up. I had some luck with Thermolds...some of it bad. I use them for the training range-the ones you dump in the sand and mud, on the concrete, etc. Stay safe.
