Any one know if there is a way to remove spray paint from an AR15 without removing any of the ORIGINAL finish beneath it?

Paint thinner? At worst, it might dull the original finish a bit.
Depends on what kind of paint it is and what the original finish on the AR15 is. Hmm, that sounds like something Clinton would say!
Something cheap out of a spray can can usually be cleaned off very easily with a solvent such as paint remover, lacquer thinner, or brake cleaner.
Some of the two-part catalyzed paint finishes can't be removed without sanding them off.

Mix Champagne or a spirit ; I recco Vodka , with Nail Polish remover (Acetone CNT. ) and a good thick spray of WD40. Mix this up as large as you want. Get your gear in there and out, rinsed, oiled & with any negative measure re-blued ( doubtfully needed ).
When you are done, get rid of this crap quick, and probably not in your wifes houseplant.
Avoid plastic contact, as any plastic or similar will likely look like a bunch of grey **** after some contact.

WD-40 worked for me when I got pain on a window....it was just over-spray, not sure if it will work with a heavy coat.

A cautionary tale
Thought people might like to know...
With acetone and LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of TLC I got 99.9% of the paint off. I am talking HOURS and HOURS of: "acetone + q-tip + elbow grease / repeat"
HOWEVER that .01% of paint left over was maddening to me. The finish now has an eternally dull look to it. There are tiny little khaki dots all over it. BUt they are almost microscopic. So now it just looks just... dusty. As though you left the rifle out over night on a slightly winding evening? Kind of hard to explain. It functions perfectly, but for someone that takes pride in the maintenance and cleanliness their weapons - it fricking sucks.
Bottom line: do not spray paint your weapon unless:
1) you will be happy with the spray paint and will recoat - or...
2) you are ok with it eventually looking like crap
3) you are willing to PAY$$$ have it recoated in the future
