If you pay attention to my posts here, you'll know that I'm a Ruger fan. But.. I'm not a "Ruger only" guy. If it's a good firearm, I'm in.
But... my wife has, seemingly, become a Ruger fanatic.
Essentially all I have to do to get her on board with a firearm purchase, is tell her it's a Ruger. The only non-Ruger firearms she has ever bought me or supported the purchase of were a Marlin XL7 she bought (Christmas present
), and an 1895 Krag-Jorgensen that she thought looked "neat" because of its patina. Everything else had the Ruger name on it.
Last year, she overheard me discussing my desire to purchase a steel shot-capable shotgun with one of my brothers; so I could hunt water fowl, since my current shotgun can't handle it. After I was off the phone, she asked, "So, does Ruger make a shotgun you like?" When I told her I would prefer something other than the Red Label, her reply was, "Oh, that sucks for you."
(The assumption is that she was considering buying me a Ruger...)
Over the last few years, Ruger firearms have come to dominate my gun safe. Yet, when I look at the collection, my wife has had a hand in most of the Ruger purchases. She even went out of her way to make sure I knew what kind of polish she would prefer on the barrel of my Ruger 77 tang-safety that I was having rebarreled. Because, after all, you can't mess up a Ruger.
I can still do what I want with my collection. But, if my wife is involved at all, it better be a Ruger (or not 'messing up' a Ruger).
Anybody else find themselves in a similar situation?
