spotting scope ?

Looking for a spotting scope that will allow me to see 22 cal holes in paper target at 100 yds. Does anyone have one, what brand and model ?
would also like to see 223 holes at 200 and 300 yds but I hear that is almost impossible or extremely expensive, right ?
 
Good optics depend mostly on your budget. Decide how much money you can/want to spend first.
The Optics Planet article(2nd page) is pretty good, but doesn't mention mirage. That's all those heat waves you see coming off the ground in the summer. Makes it seem like you're looking through water.
Whether you can see .22 calibre holes at 300 yards depends a lot on the kind of target. Mostly the colour. There needs to be some contrast between the target face and its backing. Those do exist but aren't exactly cheap. Some of 'em can go to $4US each.
 
223 is a 22.. Bullet measurement is actually 0.224".

Depending on background a modestly priced spotting scope should do that.
Even with top tier optics, seeing a 22 hole on a black background at 300 yards is quite challenging.

Use a white background ( poster board, back of blue print) with a stick on orange dot. Even my $50 Simmons can see those.

I've graduated to a Celestron C70 Mini Mak. About $100. Worth twice as much to me.
 
Shoot NC targets are the way to go if you want to see bullet holes at extended distances, because even top tier scopes on a hot day will not give you the performance you seek on regular paper targets, I know this because I have one of the top tier scopes.
 
I bought a used Celestron C8 telescope for less than a good spotting scope.
You can see .22s easily at a couple hundred yards.
 
Have had a Bushnell Sentry for the past 43 years. It has a 20x eye piece and a32x. Bought it for size and weight as did a lot of DIY hunts.
Works fine at ranges mention by OP. Even the 20x is good at 200 if you shoot open box printed targets. Occasionally have to use the 32x at 200 yd if all shots are in the black frame or touching. SELDOM happens.
 
This discussion brings up an interesting idea regarding technology. With all the recent advances in smart phones, cameras, etc. I wonder how long it will be before someone made an "affordable" remote camera system that could be used on long-range targets. Set the camera on the ground in front of the target and get the video feed on your smart phone. That would make spotting scopes at the range somewhat obsolete.

I have a Celestron 20-60x and can see 20 cal & 22 cal at 200 yds early in the morning, range opens at 9am, so. As the day goes on, mirage makes it more difficult but still possible. 63 yr old crappy eyes.
