Spotting scope: Which for 30/06

I've been looking at spotting scopes to accompany hunting/competitive shooting for my wife's 30/06. I expect her to be doing most shooting in the 200-600 yd range with our flatter western terrain. Which spotting scopes would you folks recommend to assist in zeroing out and competitive shooting at these distances??

Thanks!

Bob, Personally I like & use a Leupold fixed power 20x50, they also make a 25x50 fixed power. The fixed power scopes are much lighter to carry & smaller. Being Leupold the image is really sharp & seeing even 22 cal holes in paper at 100 yards is no problem. I went for the 20 power because it does seem slightly brighter in low light conditions. Hope this helps, k

I've used the Nikon Spotter XL (16-47 zoom w/ 60 mm objective) for about a year now. Very pleased with it, street price for the kit with tripod, case and scope cover is about $500. The tripod (made by Slik) is lightweight and fine for bench use, but you might want something a bit heavier/more rugged for field use.

One guy over on Benchrest.com liked one of the compact Meade telescopes for his long-range stuff
