Sportsman 58 detail stripping help

I have a Remington Sportsman 58 autoloading shotgun that my Dad gave me before he passed. Shooting clays with it yesterday, sometimes the bolt wouldn't close all the way without assistance. Didn't require a lot of effort, just a little gentle push to close fully. I want to strip it down to the receiver, and clean and lube everything. I have it to the point where I need to release the bolt and action lever to get them out of the receiver. I have already released the action lever from the piston, and have the piston and spring out of the gas tube. The ejector appears to be pinned to the left side of the receiver, but not in the same sense as trigger group pins. Anybody out there knowledgeable of this old model that could steer me in the right direction? I have a book of exploded gun drawings, but of course this one isn't in it.

Numrich has an exploded drawing. You look under Remington, then SPT58.

If it is anything like the 1100, you should be able to reach in underneath where you load the magazine and push the shell stop into the side of the receiver. This allows you to pull the bolt assembly out of the gun (on the 1100).

Also, IF it is like the 1100, you could push out the two pins that hold the trigger assembly in, and take it out, which would give you a better view inside.

good luck.

Thanks for the Numrich tip Charlie. Last time I was on the site looking for the adjustable magazine cap, they didn't have a schematic but thanks for the update. The trigger group was the first thing I removed. I was a little hesitant about feeling around inside, because all the edges are extremely sharp, and I've already sliced my thumb to ribbons once on it...

Charlie, like I always say - YOU DA MAN!!! Pushing the shell stop into the receiver does release the bolt just like the 1100. Thanks again for your help.
BTW, I did manage to cut myself again cleaning the receiver, though not badly. LOL

well cool!

Great! I'm glad it was the right info. sorry about getting cut. A couple of additional notes (again from 1100 experience):

1) The shell stop, which is a flat piece press fit into the side of the receiver, may come out when you take the trigger assy out. If that happens, you need to line it up with the trigger pin hole, press it back in, and slightly peen it in place with a hammer and screwdriver. A plastic clamp helps greatly in doing this.

2) You may need to push the shell stop in somewhat to get the bolt and action bar to slide back into the receiver. This you have to play with to get it just right.

again, good luck!
