Sportsman 48 Recoil

My problem is Heavy Recoil. I have a 16 ga. The shells were hanging up in the chamber. I cleaned the gun ane applied heavy oil. Now the thing kicks so hard it's no fun to shoot.
The ejector is maring the edge of the shells and bending the base of them. The empty hulls are flying out about 10 feet. I have never see a shotgun eject hulls like this.
I am using Winchester Game Loads #8's.

Do I have too much oil? or is there another possible problem and/or solution?

I don't know if the oil is what's doing it, but you should only apply a light film. Is this a recoil operated semi? You might want to check and see if it's set up for light or heavy loads, it has to do with the way the rings are set up around the mag tube. You might be shooting light loads on a heavy-load setup.

Someone who knows more should chime in.

Best,

It is a recoil operated semi auto. There is only one ring one the mag tube. I'll try turning it around and wipe off the excess oil.

Sorry for the long delay. We just got back from the range. The old 16 is working better.
I wiped all of the oil off the mag tube and spring, also some out of the receiver & bolt. I did not reverse the ring on the mag tube, it has intructions on it "this end towards muzzle for all loads".
There was a noticable difference from the first shot. The recoil was lighter than before but still heavy. After 100 rounds the recoil became better, not quite back to normal but better. No bruises today.
The gun cycles much faster, and doesn't throw the hulls as far. We are still getting a little mark on the rim of the shells form the extractor. I think a little oil in the chamber may fix that.
I have heard it both ways about this shotgun, some say it shoots better dripping with oil and some say its better dirty with a little grim on the tube.
I think i have the grimy version.
Thank for your input.
