which barrel is better to get? when my $$ comes ima order my Savage but im stuck on the Mark II FV an the Mark II FSS. is the sporter barrel the best one or is the heavy barrel for accuracy?

That is a light enough gun that the "heavy barrel" will do about anything and not weight you down.
But do you want a .22 LR or a .17 HMR?

the .22 LR since i already have thousands of rounds for it. i read that the FV can do half inch groupings at 100 yards but is the sporter barrel able to do that? or is that not possible?

What are you going to do with the rifle.

If I'm hunting I want a light featherweight type barrel. It dosn't go south until it gets hot. I've never shot a hunting rifle to that point while hunting.

So if you're only shooting 5-8 rounds at a time, the light barrel will work.

However, if I'm going to lay on my belly and shoot 20+ rounds per match, sometime firing 2-3 matches a session, I want a heavy barrel.

That's why I have so many guns, cause I do different things. No "one" gun is going to work for everything.

its going to be a squirrel gun. i heard the heavy is more accurate an thats what im wanting or is there a noticable difference between the sporter an bull barrel?

I'd go light. Where accuracy comes in is where the gun is shot to the point the barrel heats up disrupting things. I can't see that happening while squirrel hunting. I do remember as a kid hunting squirrels with my uncle, We spent a lot more time carrying then shooting.

Do you hunt the old fashion way? My uncle would have dogs tree the squirrel and then chop down the tree to get the squirrel. Even as a kid I figured that was more work the the squirrel was worth.

Anyway, I have some good accurate rifles with light barrels more then adequate for squirrels.

I think that's a stretch. That is X-ring accuracy for a $3000 target rifle firing $1000 a case ammunition.

The weight difference between the two models is only half a pound.
