I am finishing up the artwork on the 50BMG Defense Fund raffle tickets so I decided to call up Bob Stewart to get some information.
The rifle for raffle is, indeed, the Model 89 pictured on his web site and posted here.
Sorry this is taking so long, I am new to this
Since many are concerned about Bob's "felony status" I decided to ask him about the initial arrest in Utah back in the early 90s.
I asked him about Bo Gritz' depiction of the arrest (tightening screws on a Class 3 weapon).
Bob chuckled and said that such was not the case but it was close. I've asked Bob to post the story on his web page but here is the gist... (all inaccuracies are mine).
Two manufacturers were busted for receiving stolen property. As part of a deal, they agreed to ensnare other people. Since they knew Bob, they sent him a Class 3 "kit" and asked him to work on it, which supposedly he was allowed to do.
The FBI came in and told him he had been indicted. It came as a surprise to him. They told him that if he would "do some work" for them, he could plea to six months probation or if not, this school teacher could face $250,000 fines, legal bills and ten years in prison.
Bob agreed to the plea but not to the snitch work. He got two years in prison instead of six months unsupervised probation.
The State of Utah has restored his rights, including his right to keep and bear arms. Bob said that the BATF failed to check into this.
There is a whole bunch more that I cannot say that will be made public when he files a civil suit against the feds including a certain Mesa police officer who refused to show him the search warrant (and no search warrant is at this time listed in evidence).
Oops.
Rick
